When we launched Lights On Still Scared, we knew we wanted to tell stories about places that mattered to us. Not just the well-known landmarks or the facts you can find in a guidebook, but the stories that linger in local memories, family conversations, and late-night discussions.
Our first episodes took us back to our hometowns: Leatherhead in Surrey and Aberdeen in the north-east of Scotland. While these places are separated by hundreds of miles, we quickly discovered they shared something in common. Every town has its stories. Every community has its mysteries, its local legends, and the moments that shape the people who grow up there.
Leatherhead: More Than a Surrey Commuter Town

For many people, Leatherhead is simply a place they pass through. But for those who know it well, it's a town filled with history, character and stories that deserve to be told. Looking back at familiar streets through the lens of a podcast reminded us that the places we take for granted often have the richest stories hiding beneath the surface.
Aberdeen: Granite, History and Hidden Tales

Aberdeen's dramatic coastline, granite architecture and rich history make it a fascinating place to explore. Revisiting the city allowed us to look beyond the familiar and uncover stories that even lifelong residents may not know. From local folklore to historical events, Aberdeen offered plenty of reasons to keep the lights on.
Edinburgh: A City Built on Stories

Our most recent episode took us to Edinburgh, a city that seems tailor-made for storytelling. Beneath its stunning skyline lies a history filled with intrigue, mystery, tragedy and legend. Whether exploring the closes of the Old Town, tales from beneath the city streets, or the characters who helped shape Scotland's capital, Edinburgh reminded us why stories endure.
What We've Learned So Far
One thing has become clear during our first few episodes: every place has a story worth telling.
The more we research, the more we realise that history isn't confined to museums and textbooks. It lives in local legends, family memories, forgotten newspaper articles and the places we walk past every day.
That's exactly what Lights On Still Scared is about.
It's about looking at familiar places with fresh eyes, asking questions, uncovering stories and occasionally finding ourselves a little more spooked than we expected.
Where Next?
As we continue our journey, we'll be exploring more locations, more stories and more of the strange, fascinating and sometimes unsettling tales that make every place unique.
If you've enjoyed our episodes so far, we'd love to hear from you. What stories from your hometown should we investigate next?
Because wherever you're from, we're willing to bet there's a story waiting to be told.
